I am a mystic as much as I am a writer. My words stretch the bounds of reality and take you to a world that touches our world, but is hidden or rarely seen.

A poetic response to the shootings in Boulder

In Boulder, an oasis, a haven
where on my first week of living here
I went to the library, got a card, and rested
underneath a large cottonwood. This was a sort of
miracle for me, to actually rest in a public place.

In light of tragedy,
shadows grow brighter,
change quickens
in moments of imbalance.

In Boulder, an oasis, a haven
of mindful people, a lurking shadow,
the killing of ten people, a violent fervor.
What underlying grief and fear and rage
enacts, in physical force, the taking of lives?

Sadness…

Knowing who you are allows your artistic style to shine!

“There was about a two-year period at the end of the ’60s, when I realized I was in the wrong place and entertaining the wrong people with the wrong material and that I was not being true to myself. I went through a metamorphosis into something more authentic for me, a more authentic stage voice and writing voice.” ~ George Carlin

Recently, I had a similar epiphany as George Carlin. I have been under the illusion I would be the type of person who would inspire through words in a…

Whose dream is it?

“I can’t believe he denies the truth,” Glen said, pointing his chin at one of our co-workers.

“He hasn’t been paying attention to his dreams,” I said.

We sat in our charcoal grey cubicles. Mine was the smallest. My back was crammed against the staff refrigerator: shelves filled with stale, rotten, unclaimed leftovers. It was my turn to clean it.

Glen turned to me, and then glanced over his shoulder at the large sliding glass door. The entrance to the executive suites. The place we were never allowed to go.

“I try to keep regular hours, but they wake me…

A Rebel’s Prompt, Letting Go

There’s a law written somewhere that compliments must come with a dash of honesty, otherwise why be fake at all?

“Look at how your clothes piece together hiding your holes. Now I know who you are. You’re the patchwork barbie doll girl!”

Adieu to reveries of bank accounts and satin sheets with holes the size of bite-sized habits: overspending meets undeserving.

Adieu to unwholesome places, where southern belles sing to Elvis on the radio and roaches crawl on the afternoon grilled cheese.

Adieu to the teenagers smoking Cools under the willow tree, desiring to get…

Your proximity is requested.

An ocean expands out and out from the harbor of my heart.
My presence forces communion, a consequence of the curvature of spacetime, common union: I am weak without you.

A scene, more like a spread of an expanse, comes to me:
a stillness of blue and then bending,
blades of grass.

These subtle moments carry their own magnitude:
The gravity of existence in a blade of grass
vibrating slowly, currents
not unlike the ocean, carry a stillness_inside

Moments: one by one, all together clicking into place expressing my invisible essence gravity: doesn’t pull us down…

Especially when the creative wellspring has run dry.

Every writer needs a boost now and then to help relieve stagnation from an overworked day job, weeks of editing a manuscript—yours or clients, or starting a new project. It’s time to let the wellspring flow. Let’s get to it!

1. Stand-Up Comedy

Comedians are truthsayers wielding words like magicians. Whether you’re looking for humor or not, stand-up comedians show us how to turn a phrase or share a story in short powerful ways to create a desired effect.
I’m especially fond of Dry Bar Comedy.

It’s all around us and within us.

A writer on Twitter posted how she wished the world was as magical as Harry Potter.

The truth is: the world is incredibly magical in many ways.
Often, what we perceive as magical seems in-congruent to how we live our lives. Such as riding on brooms and using wands to get what we want versus going to the same job everyday.

Living a magical life is not as far off as it might seem. We simply need to shift how we perceive what we perceive. Allowing for shifts in perspective to become natural…

Riding the edge of bringing the inward — outward.
Questions to ponder as we begin the New Year and New Decade.

What edge do you push up against as a writer?

  • Rambling words wander in fathoms of oceanic thought waves? Only making sense after the fifteenth edit?
  • Your heart expels emotional outbursts onto the page, over and over again? Reaching for a reader to share in similar injustices of the world?
  • Words stunted by perfection: each letter is a meticulous expression of . . .?
  • Or are you an intuitive writer? Following internal worlds and inherent perspectives with the desire to express them in a receivable way?

Even if our…

Everything.

Whether you’re a writer, entrepreneur, health practitioner, artist, scientist (the list goes on), you’re creating from the wellspring of the feminine. The feminine within you and the feminine of the Great Mother. No matter your gender or sexual preference, the feminine resides within all of us.

What is the Great Mother?
The Great Mother is the all-pervading force of creative energy living within the Earth and Universe. The vessel where magic and imagination resides. The chalice where the divine masculine gathers his spark to bring creative energy into manifest form. …
